Skoliosis Treatment

Scoliosis is a spinal disorder in which the spine is twisted and curved and can no longer be straightened by the muscles.

This usually has a severe impact on the vertebrae and intervertebral discs and, if left untreated, can lead to severe pain and the breakdown of bone tissue and intervertebral discs in middle age.

Treatment of Skoliosis

For a long time, scoliosis was understood to mean a lateral curvature of the spine that can no longer be fully straightened. The mobility of the spine is usually significantly reduced in the affected section.

Thanks to Dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiß, we now have a broader view of scoliosis as a three-dimensional deviation.

In addition to the lateral bending of the spine and a twisting of the vertebral bodies (so-called torsion), he repeatedly referred to the flattening in the lateral profile (so-called flat back due to reduced lordosis in the lumbar region and kyphosis in the thoracic region).

This flattening in the lateral profile is of great prognostic significance. It can be precisely recorded by means of light-optical spinal measurements.

When fitting a GBW (Gensingen Brace according to Weiß, so-called corset), a correction of this malposition is "incorporated". This represents a significant advantage over numerous other corsets and is reflected in success rates of over 90 %.
